The Compass Backup (.cbu) file includes the input and output channels as well as the operator settings. This backup can be restored on a new controller in the unlikely event that there is an issue with one of your Compass controllers and it needs to be replaced.
You can restore a backup to the same controller it was backed up to or you can restore it to a new controller. If you are restoring to a new controller, you will need to make sure that the controller has the proper licenses and adequate input and output modules before you can restore the file.
When restoring the Compass Backup file, the software release in the controller should be the same release that was in the controller when the backup was made. Otherwise variables that are different in the two releases will not be restored properly and you will get warning messages when you try to restore the settings. To eliminate this problem, Priva recommends that you make a backup every time you update the controller to the latest release.
If your backup was not made in the current release, you can try to restore the settings anyway. If there is a conflict, the restore procedure will come up with warning messages since it cannot restore all the settings. To restore the settings, follow this procedure.
- Enter the Gateway setup. To enter the gateway setup, you will need to enter the PIN code. This is the code that allows you to get into the installation menu and has been set by your installer.
- In the Settings tab of the Gateway setup you will see all the controllers that are connected to the gateway. Click on the Device Setup button of the controller you want to back up. This will take you to the controller setup page.
- Click on the sprocket on the page to get to the application setup screen.
- Click on the RESTORE button to initiate the restore procedure. Follow the prompts on the screen to select the file you want to restore.
If you get warnings when you restore, you will need to revert your controller to the release that was in the controller when you made your backup. Follow the procedure described here.
