To ascertain the EC level of irrigation water accurately, it is imperative to assess both the water's conductivity and temperature. This is crucial because the measured conductivity is influenced by variations in water temperature. Priva addresses this challenge by employing a temperature compensation algorithm, guaranteeing precise EC level readings across a spectrum of temperatures.
Priva has provided EC sensors equipped with two distinct types of temperature sensors, both operating on the NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) principle. This principle dictates that the sensor's resistance decreases as the water temperature rises. In the past, Priva utilized a 1K Ω NTC sensor, resulting in a resistance measurement of 1000 ohms at 25°C (77°F). This sensor was discontinued as of February 1, 2025. Priva currently uses a 3 KΩ NTC sensor, where the resistance measures 3000 ohms at a water temperature of 25°C (77°F). Consequently, it is essential to exercise caution to guarantee the appropriate matching of the EC sensor with the corresponding EC interface. This article will help our installers determine the correct sensors and interfaces they will need.
Priva EC interfaces
The Priva EC interface boards are almost identical. To differentiate between them, one must locate the identifying sticker on the interface board. Specifically, the EC interface designed for the 3 KΩ NTC sensor bears a sticker with the text "Use with PRIVA 3K EC Sensors only. Scan for more info," accompanied by a QR code linking to this article. It's important to note that the older 1KΩ EC interface lacks this distinctive sticker.

Determining which NTC type is on the EC sensor.
Priva provides multple types of EC sensors in different configurations. In order to determine the type of water temperature sensor on the EC sensor, it is best to check the resistance of the water temperature sensor with an ohmmeter. Since the resistance changes based on the temperature, you can use this chart to determine the type of sensor you have.
