This alarm occurs when Priva Compass is unable to communicate with a device over Ethernet.
At present, the only devices that communicate with Priva Compass via Ethernet are Aranet wireless sensors, using an Aranet base station.
Possible Causes
There are several reasons why this alarm may be triggered:
No communication between the Aranet base station and Compass
The Aranet base station may be unable to communicate with Priva Compass. This can be caused by:
- A loss of power to the base station.
- A fault in the Ethernet connection between the base station and Compass
No communication between the base station and one or more Aranet sensors
After Aranet sensors are paired with the base station, a file named
modbus-autogen-address-layout.json is generated. This file defines which sensors Priva Compass communicates with.
If a sensor is listed in this file, Compass will request data for that sensor from the Aranet base station. If the data cannot be retrieved, Compass will generate a “System alarm: IP comm. error”.
Note that this alarm may be triggered even if the affected sensor is not configured to an I/O channel in Priva Compass.
Most Common Cause
The most common cause of this alarm is:
- A depleted battery inside one of the the wireless sensors.
- The sensor is out of wireless range of the Aranet base station.
Often you can diagnose the cause of the issue by logging into the Aranet base station. This can be accessed via the Gateway Setup ->Device Setup - >Aranet -> Aranet base station setup.
