While we are excited to offer this AI option, there are a few things to take note of:
- This is experimental. We'd love your feedback — it helps us shape where this goes. It's not formally supported, and Priva may change or withdraw it at any time.
- The MCP only supplies data. Output quality depends on the AI you use — Priva can't influence its accuracy, token usage, or cost. Use is at your own risk.
- You may need to re-authenticate periodically. If your AI doesn't prompt you, do it manually via the connector menu. This keeps your data secure.
- No Realtime Data API access. The Realtime API was excluded from the MCP because that API can change building setpoints directly, and AI behavior isn't predictable enough yet for that level of control.
- On mobile: if your AI supports it (like Claude), you can use this in the field too.
- Know when to use what. AI plus the MCP makes a capable analyst and report writer, but that is not its strength. It is less efficient and errors can creep in. For routine work, Priva Operator, Priva Analytics, or Priva Energy Insight are faster, cheaper, and just as capable. The MCP shines when you need AI's reasoning to dig into something open-ended — energy-saving opportunities, anomalies, or complaint investigation.
- Historical data must be enabled on any points you want analyzed. Manage this in Priva Building Operator's Historical Data overview.
- AI has an energy cost. Priva is committed to sustainability, and AI carries an energy cost. Used frivolously, that cost adds up. But used with intention, AI can help you save far more energy than it consumes. That's a trade-off worth making wisely.
