Building Operator Local (Fallback) runs on the Edge Gateway and can be accessed by connecting to the LAN 2 port of the Edge Gateway via http://<IP_address_LAN2>:5002.
Since Building Operator Local and Local Fallback are functionally the same (more info), we will only talk about Building Operator Local in this article. |
Below picture shows the 4 options for how the networks can be connected to the Edge Gateway and to which network the PC for Building Operator Local should be connected.
Be aware that it poses security risks to have the PC for local operation on the Internet network (bottom two options in the picture). |
|
Note that if you have the PC for local operation on the Internet network (bottom two options in the picture) and the Internet fails while using Building Operator, you will not need to switch networks to be able to access Building Operator Local. | |
No Internet is needed to use Building Operator Local. Only to keep updated, you need to temporarily connect to the Internet. |

Keep updated
To use Building Operator Local, the Edge Gateway does not need to be connected to the Internet. However, in 2 situations, the Edge Gateway must be (temporarily) connected to the Internet:
- When changes are made in the Top Control project, the metadata must be re-uploaded with the TC Metadata Uploader (more info).
Note: This tool uploads the metadata to the cloud. After the upload, the metadata will be downloaded to the Edge Gateway so that it can be used by Building Operator Local. Make sure you wait long enough for the metadata to be downloaded before disconnecting the Edge Gateway from the Internet. - The Edge Gateway must be updated regularly by updating the modules in Installation & Maintenance.
